Description: | Guided Nature Walk for Families Salish Ponds with Naturalist Elaine Murphy Meant for families with littles (older siblings welcome, too), this walk is part of a series of monthly guided walks in area parks, alternating between the East & West sides. Elaine leads walks for littles (and older kids and adults) throughout the area, and brings along a great backpack full of bug boxes, specimens, and more. Salish Ponds is located between Halsey and Glisan streets at the site of an old rock quarry. Visitors can see hawks, geese, ducks, rabbits, coyotes and other wildlife. (Elaine will also lead a walk at Tualatin River NWR geared to older kids that will be longer in duration and include her spotting scope for bird watching.) When: Monday, March 2 at 10am. One hour. Where: Meet at Salish Ponds Elementary Trailhead. 1210 NE 201st Ave, Fairview, OR 97024. Drive I-84 east to Exit 13 for 181st Avenue and Gresham. After exiting, turn right onto 181st Avenue. Go 0.4 miles and turn left onto Halsey Street. Drive 1 mile to the intersection with 201st Avenue. Turn right, and drive 0.2 miles and turn left onto Holladay Street for Salish Ponds Elementary School. Parking areas on the east side of the school grounds facing the wetlands. Restroom on site. Who: All ages, best suited for littles. $5 per child, parents free (please register everyone). Dress for the weather, bring a snack if you like. We need a minimum of 10 kids to cover costs. |
