K-12 Independent Learning Option at Village Home
The Village Home CHOICE (Creating Home-based Options for Independent & Collaborative Education) program is a
K-12 private school option for Village Home members. In this program, families work with a Learning Consultant to
define a learning plan for each student, identify helpful resources for achieving the learning plan, and monitor
progress under the learning plan with regular team meetings. The Learning Team is comprised of the learner, the parent(s), and the learning consultant.
In addition, Village Home CHOICE families will meet
as a group occasionally for discussions and group projects.
Overview
The Village Home CHOICE program allows families to:
- Work with a mentor. The mentor can provide suggestions on learning approaches and resources. The mentor can also serve as a neutral third party for the student to interact with, which often enhances the dynamic between the learner and the primary educator, the parent.
- Avail themselves of a third-party viewpoint for observing and assessing the student's educational progress, and assistance in developing a portfolio or transcript in the upper grades.
- Be enrolled in a private school, rather than registering as a homeschooler, giving the family full flexibility in determining the means and frequency of assessment of educational progress.
